
ABOUT MAALIC
The Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics International Conference (MAALIC) is a biennial conference organised by MAAL (Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics). It is supported by various institutions and organisations. It aims to bring applied linguists from across the regions to share research outcomes and experiences as well as to network.
PAST MAALIC 2021
MAALIC 2021 was conducted virtually due to the restrictions of COVID-19. Although the pandemic restrictions have been partially uplifted, international travel was still limited then. Thus, the conference was hosted on online platform. The theme for the conference was “Applied Linguistics Research and Practices in the VUCA World: Embracing Digitalisation, Challenges and New Norms”.

MAALIC 2023
MAALIC 2023 will be the 3rd conference hosted by MAAL (Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics .It will be held in a hybrid mode: both physical and online participation. Since most countries have started opening up their borders, we would like to welcome our presenters and participants to MAALIC 2023, Kuala Lumpur. For those who are still restricted to travel abroad, we provide the opportunity to participate in the conference virtually with a limit to its number of participation. MAALIC 2023 will stipulate an excellent opportunity to meet experts in various areas of Applied Linguistics and Language education and teaching including interdisciplinary studies.
MAALIC 2023 will be held from September 5-6 2023 at the Swiss Garden and Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

CONFERENCE BACKGROUND
Language and linguistics play central roles in our daily lives. This conference aims to showcase how applied linguistics and its sub-fields interpret the events which unravel in our VUCA world, as well as share insights on how applied linguistics can be used as a tool to provide solutions for a more sustainable world. We anticipate lively exchange of ideas on how language and communication in a multiplicity of languages and settings can help us brave the current bleak global landscape to move forward confidently to embrace new norms. This conference provides an opportunity to explore how applied linguistics can unravel the intricacies of interactions brought about by technology, and how innovations in the society, industry and education can enhance language use and communication towards sustainable development goals.
